Day 641

It is a wonderful feeling to know, on a visceral level, that someone has your back! With our pack of Goldens, Ranger certainly has Lilly's back and she knows it! Our girl trusts her brother completely and you can actually see her relax when he is near.

The term, "I've got your back" originated in the military during WWII. It referred to going off to battle with your comrades making sure to cover you from behind so that no harm might befall you. It must have saved many lives.

This phrase of friendship and trust means someone is there to protect and support you no matter what. That is a rare and true gift indeed In my own life, there are a number of people who have had and still offer that gift to me. These people would do anything within their power to never let me down. They are my rocks and the foundation of my security and growth. Without them, I would flounder and hesitate to take any risks or travel unknown pathways.

Hopefully, I am that person to others. It is an honor to be trusted and relied on to that extent. Although the need may not be constant, it is crucial to not let those people down.

Much like Ranger and Lilly, we all have those "safe people" who have our backs no matter what. That is a true and wonderful gift indeed!
