Day 622

Today is a day of gratitude! After that bump on my head yesterday, everything looks a little more beautiful than it did! Having an encounter with a door jamb, with the resulting "awning" over my eye, gives me pause and an attitude of appreciation.

Waking up with a smile, facing the day with anticipation, adoring my dogs even more than usual and so many other things occurred because I bumped my head. Eventually, I took the time to ponder why this day of gratitude doesn't happen every day. Why isn't every morning a gift to be opened and savored?

In all honesty, obligations and "Mind Olympics" (my brain goes a mile a minute!) seem to get in the way. Cleaning, cooking, errands and other daily events take precedence over basking in the joy of life. Even preparations for Therapy Dogging (not the actual visits) can take my mind off of the beauty of the day! Things evidently need to change in my estimation.

Once again, I turn to my Goldens for the answer. They take joy in everything! Walks, "Tummy Time," snuggles, treats...you name it, they find the joy! Unfortunately, although they seem to have the "fast road" to gratitude, my life tends to be a bit more involved. So, I came up with a compromise.

First, I will make a true effort to remember my head injury and the appreciation of life that followed that bump. Next, I have chosen four things encountered every day to trigger the appreciation mode (a certain tree, an object in the house, a part of a building on our walks, the sky). When I see them, I will take a moment of gratitude for life. Finally, watching my pups will remind me to live life for the simplest of pleasures...like Walking With Goldens!
