Day 615
Our Gus Gus had a rough night at the cottage...which means Mama was challenged as well! At about 3 a.m., there was a whispered bark from our boy. My "Puppy Alert Ears" caught it right away and I was out of bed in a second! After letting him outside, he seemed to be doing well when he reentered the cottage door. Jumping up on the bed, he snuggled in for about five minutes. Outside, inside, outside, inside...dealing with digestive issues galore. Poor baby! We made it to daylight, then packed up to head home. When any of my babies are under the weather, I want to be near a veterinarian.
By the time we made it home, he seemed to be doing better, so inside we went to boil chicken and rice. We will see what tonight brings...
When any of my pups are not themselves, I am on high alert. For my human family, this is true as well. Remembering back to the days when my own children were little, there are many memories of long nights with temperatures, coughs, aches, bad dreams and any other reason to face a long night. Funny thing...I remember the snuggles and love more than the many dire reasons for spending the night awake.
As a young child, there are vivid memories of needing my parents in the middle of the night. From sore throats to nightmares, my folks were always there within moments of my plaintive cry. Some nights, one of them would tuck me into their side of the bed while heading to sleep in my vacant spot. No matter what the issue, everything seemed to get better as soon as one of them would appear.
Just the presence of someone we love can make everything better. Even as an adult, there have been times when friends and family have made my heart lighter. With their support, any challenges seemed like they could be faced. What a gift!
Remembering the feeling of safety as a little girl and also the love shared with me as an adult, I am convinced that loved ones make EVERYTHING better. It is something to hold close to our hearts when friends or family need a hug, some soup or just a hand to hold.
Now off to check on that chicken and rice! Gus is worth every moment...whether we are sleeping or up all night!
