Day 607
This cold weather makes Walking With Goldens more challenging. Instead of our daily jaunts, the pups are enjoying snuggles and naps.
As much as I enjoy the seasons, and their unique gifts, there is something to be said for winter's forced nesting! Fireplaces, blankets, movies, games and Goldens are wonderful lures to just stay put!
While we enjoy the time spent together inside The Big White House, my heart worries about the wildlife outside our warm walls. I tend to take responsibility for those critters who find their homes in my yard.
We had a small pickup parked in the driveway next to the bird feeders. To my delight, the chickadees would perch on the truck's grill between speedy reconaissance missions to the feeders. When someone pointed out that the little buddies might be taking up residence under the hood, I began to worry! What if they couldn't escape when the motor started? What if they were ruining the interior? What if.....
Checking under the hood, we discovered a developing problem as the 20+ feathered friends were making themselves right at home. Making certain that all our little friends had vacated for the moment, we moved the truck into the garage. That's when the guilt set in!
Off to the hardware stores to purchase a number of birdhouses for our homeless chickadees! We hung them on branches near the driveway and my heart felt less heavy.
Now on to the squirrels...they need to be bribed to leave the new bird houses alone! Better head back to the store to buy them some "contraband corn."
Stay warm, snuggle in and throw a few crackers out the door for those little guys who can't come inside!
