Day 563
Celebrations are such joyous occasions. In our home, we love to honor birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and any other event that has made our lives richer. We enjoy our times together and feel the gratitude for each annual festivity.
There is one event that we do not celebrate annually...that would be our wedding anniversary. Married later in life, we decided to celebrate every month on the 30th (Feb. 28th works too). Knowing we won't have the joy of seeing our 50th wedding anniversary, we decided to honor the day of our wedding each month. Laughingly, we explain to others that we celebrate in "Dog Years!"
Today, was our 200th Month Wedding Anniversary! For a couple who never miss the opportunity to share their love with each other, this was a special day indeed! Both of us feel so blessed to have found the other and we never miss the chance to acknowledge the joy we feel.
My husband jokingly tells people that, when we started to get a little serious, I told him that if he didn't like dogs or Disney this wasn't going to work. He also reminds me that his move from Texas to Anoka was another requirement. He is mostly correct...especially about dogs and Anoka!
When we got married, Mac found himself with Arthur (Golden), Oreo (border collie), Rosie (collie) and plans for adding on to the pack at any time. I lovingly remind him that HE was the one who added Ranger to the mix when we went to pick up Sister Lilly. He also gave the OK to add 12-year-old Nicky to our family when the need arose.
Looking for more support in the Therapy Dog business, we went to get Gus out in Ottertail. There were two puppies to choose from. I chose one and Gus (the other puppy) chose Mac. My mind was working a mile-a-minute while watching the puppies in action. Just as I made my decision, the one "not chosen" romped over to Mac's feet and promptly fell asleep on his shoes. Decision made!
Sam was added with few reservations from my wonderful husband. Now, with four Goldens in the family, he loves each and every one of them...especially Gus!
So, today we celebrate 200 months of "wedded bliss" and shake our heads when we think how lucky we were to find each other! To honor an event, birthday or anniversary that surrounds beloved family members is a must in this house. It is a wonderful way to let loved ones know that they matter, they are cherished and that we celebrate the love that surrounds us!
