Day 548
With the unusually beautiful weather we have been experiencing, our transition from yardwork to decorating for the holidays has been interesting. Placing wreaths and garlands for a festive "outside" has been a challenge for me! Holiday decorating has collided with 60°days and I have the urge to simply sit in the sun and dream about summer. So, into the house I go where I am greeted by Christmas music in every room, trees up and decorated along with a calendar full of festivities. It is hard to choose which way to go...out or in!
The Goldens seem equally as confused. We go for our daily walks, but upon our arrival home, they can't seem to decide if they want to dig a new hole in the soft earth or curl up by one of the Christmas trees for a snooze. Everyone...two and four-legged alike, has too many options!
For Minnesotans, it seems like the weather determines our lives. Sunny and warm pulls us outside while cloudy and cold sends us scurrying for the nearest warmth. There does not seem to be many in-between choices to make. With my confusion about where to focus my time, there seems to be a need for an overhaul of expectations on my part.
Being born and raised in the North Country, I tend to squeeze every ounce of nice weather out of my days. Whether it is work or play, I choose the great outdoors!
The one problem being that our climate offers a large proportion of cold days! Loving the outdoors, and appreciating my skeletal system should remain in one piece, my options seem limited...but are they?
This year, I vow to take a new look at winter in all its glory! Perhaps I will try snowshoes or spikes on the bottom of my boots. There may even be a few sledding opportunities with sweet Asher. I do love a shovel in my hands and snowballs with the Goldens might be fun for all!
Even though our short days, and lack of Vitamin D, tend to make one tired and craving the sun, there is something to be said for reading a good book by the fire or digging into my stash of yarn! However, this year, my goal is to embrace the great outdoors...at least for a few minutes each day!
