Day 529
We have had a busy day here on The Halloween Capital of the World! To begin the craziness, we had some tree work done AND shingles and other materials were delivered for our new roof! The dogs have had a bark-a-thon throughout the day!!!
Next, various bands, floats and other festive Halloween parade additions marched by our home...much to the delight of our barking crew! It's been so fun!
Finally, down to the parade to stand behind our favorite ghost (the kindergarten students sat on Main Street.) to watch the Kiddie Parade in all its glory! It was cold, but the elementary students made one forget the brisk wind and low temperatures with their joy and enthusiasm.
Having a bit of the researcher still within me, I wondered at the gathering literally parading before our eyes. What makes people flock to parades or stand on the curb cheering? I came up with a few reasons, but landed on the major draw... happiness! The marchers, floats, bands and other members of the parade were smiling, waving and making music. The people who came to watch are waving right back and their laughter and cheers are still ringing in my ears.
Nostalgia can be heartwarming and today's parade was full of memories from days gone by. Generations of people have been drawn to the simple, pure entertainment parades offer.
Perhaps we need more parades. Maybe we simply crave simpler times where technology and fast-paced entertainment is nowhere to be found.
Precious times indeed...
