Day 499

Lilly and I were both sitting at the feet of our beloved centenarian when another pearl of wisdom flitted through the air and into my heart. With a wave of his hand in the air, he said, "It's the little things that matter most. Small gestures make a relationship beautiful."

Our WWll veteran went on to talk about his beloved Edith and the early years of their marriage. They greeted each other at the door, held hands, shared stories from their day and ended each night with a prayer and grateful hearts. These little rituals, along with many others, continued throughout their entire life making it a love story for the generations.

We often hear about large gestures bestowed upon a loved one. Cars, bouquets, vacations and other surprises are wonderful, but might not touch the heart as deeply as an original poem, a walk in the park or even a foot rub. According to our "Harmonica Player," the gesture needn't be extravagant...but it must come from the heart!

In a world where people strive to obtain the newest, grandest "thing," perhaps we should take a good look at what really matters when you share love. After all, it's not the price of a gift or gesture, but the depth of kindness and giving that really touches the heart.

Perhaps more wild flowers, hand-holding and hugs are in order. I think our beloved senior would agree!
