Day 485
These three sometimes need a break from little brother, Sammy. Our youngest has a heart of "Gold," but he is still a puppy. When Sam gets too ZOOMY, the others retreat to their port of safety...under the dining room table.
There are a few "ports of safety" in my world. Some are far away, but reside in my heart. I can conjure them up and feel their healing powers. (Martha's Vineyard, a beloved home in Plano, the cottage, Ireland and Disney.) When my world gets chaotic, and I need a moment to recharge, I visualize one of these places and calm my spirit.
If my world is really tumbling, I seek refuge in my father's big armchair, the sunroom or my front porch. Each beloved place seems to bring me peace.
Beyond physical havens, there are certain people who bring a spiraling world into focus. We all have our circle of special loved ones who open their hearts, their wise souls and their arms. What would we do without them?
Finally, my Goldens know when there is a need for love and serenity before my own mind can grasp that. At my feet, beside me on the couch or simply being everywhere I wander, those big brown eyes bring such solace to my core.
Places, people and dogs...harmony is only a heartbeat away.
