Day 438
When we prepare for a trip Up North, our Goldens have four phases of anxiety:
1. Something's up...
"Our humans are acting strange. We better keep an eye on them."
2. Suitcases appear...
"Oh no! The suitcases! This could be very good or VERY bad!"
3. The car is being packed...
" Mommy's bag, Daddy's bag! Where is OUR bag??? Whew! There it is!"
4. All Goldens are loaded into the vehicle...(Sam was the last one in the car.).
Sam: "Don't forget me! I am your precious baby!!!! I WILL jump over this fence and YOU KNOW I just had surgery! What? My turn? Finally!!!!!"
It humbles me to realize that we are their life. They rely on us for everything from beds to food to love! When they wake up in the morning, they look to us for direction. Breakfast, walks, play...love.
Even though dogs are not that far removed from the wolf ancestors, they need their humans for so much. Our pups count on us for survival, but mostly love.
We humans might let our canines down from time-to-time, but their love, devotion and forgiveness is unconditional. Just by even trying to PARTIALLY live up to their adoration, our hearts grow and deepen. Dogs simply make us better people.
