Day 403
There are neighborhoods and then there are NEIGHBORHOODS! We are fortunate enough to live in one of those with the capital letters.
We always support one another in any way we can. Attending plays, musical events, sporting events and often buying raffle tickets for just about anything! Birthdays are honored and "The Village" takes care of the children lucky enough to grow up here. There is the beloved Christian Hill Progressive Dinner each year along with various other gatherings where we simply enjoy being together. We even know the names of all the dogs that live on the hill! It's quite the place to live!
Actually, today was one of those days when neighbors went above and beyond! Daughter Katie and family have moved in next door and the yardwork has been daunting! From across the street, there was a cry of support and Heather, her three little boys, and later her husband, came across with tools, bins and MUSCLE! That lady went to work on the various atrocities found in the backyard and never wavered from her mission! For three hours, she sawed, pulled ripped and snipped anything that had no business being in a proper yard. She tackled about 2/3rds of one side fence, but what a beautiful sight for sore eyes!
Katie returned from work and dug in with gusto! I was happy to relinquish control of the saw and took great joy in following the children around! Jimmy arrived and entertained the "littles" and we finally sat down to a picnic of pizza, pop and cookies...thanks to Mr. Mac. The approaching thunder chased us inside, or we would probably still be out there visiting.
Sometimes, I believe that our amazing country needs more neighborhoods like the one we enjoy. Here, people really care and offer a helping hand whenever there is a need. We know just enough about each other to be supportive and empathetic to any needs that might arise. If we could just take that feeling of belonging and safety to every neighborhood out there, it would make such a difference.
For now, we will cherish our safe haven of and enjoy the gifts it offers. Perhaps, when all of the children grow up and move on, they will help to form a neighborhood like the one they were lucky enough to enjoy. We can only hope...
