Day 383

Silence is Golden! Today, I find myself alone at the cabin...well at least without human companions! The family took off for a variety of adventures and left me behind with four Goldens and grandpuppy, Bachka. I am enjoying the peace and quiet surrounded by dogs.

I so seldom find myself alone. Tending to be a people person, my preference is to be surrounded by loved ones (and especially Mac). When I AM flying solo, it takes me a few moments to calm my mind and body so I can actually relax and enjoy the solitude.

When I finally achieve that feeling of balance and calm, it seems that my deepest thoughts evolve. My senses also become keener and richer. For example:

Hearing: a hummingbird at the feeder, crows "communicating", a motor boat and a breath of complete silence every now and then.

Seeing: Goldens relaxed and looking so different from each other, blue sky/blue lake, treasures festooning the walls since as far back as the 1960's...

Smelling: There is simply a wonderful aroma to an old cabin that has stood the test of time. The memories flow back vividly as I breathe deeply and remember. Also, there is a whiff of wet dogs now and then!

Touching: Playing cards, coffee cup handle, Golden fur and just the feel of summer warmth on my skin...

Tasting: Well, soon we will have lunch including the first sweet corn of the summer!

Being alone can be refreshing to the senses and spirit, but I prefer being surrounded by those I hold dear.
