Day 362
Off to the vet to get our second round of Canine Influenza shots! Sam was the last one loaded into two vehicles! Nobody...NOBODY was happy about this venture!
We took all four over to get their initial vaccines three weeks ago. That was an experience, but today was even crazier!!! They all knew what was coming! Luckily, we had Katie and Asher to help move them in and out AND a wonderful tech (Ben!) who was beyond understanding! Two weeks from now, all four pups should be good to go back to normal walks and classes.
Nobody, two-legged or four, likes to go to the doctor. At least humans understand that there just might be some advantages to a medical visit, but pups, cats and all other animals do NOT know we are only trying to help them.
The medical community has come a LONG way since I was a child! I have some pretty scary recollections of doctoring in my early years! I must have had tonsilitis when I was about six, so off to one of the two doctors in town to get a shot of penicillin...that was about all they had! I received my shot and remember looking over my shoulder as the elderly doctor threw the needle towards a large trash can in the corner. He missed and it landed on the floor with a host of other doctorly "items!" Even at that young age, I knew that just wasn't right!
Later, in my teen years, I acquired an ear infection due to putting my head underwater as our sailboat fought the wind. Feet in the hiking straps, leaning out over the side of the boat and dipping my head in the foamy waves was such a delight...until it wasn't. A couple days later, my ear was quite painful and it didn't have far to reach my brain to register that pain! Off to the other doctor in town. He took my two dollars, stuck it under the blotter on his desk and sprayed something red deep into my ear. I should have known what was about to transpire since the spray can was in the shape of a fire extinguisher! Given the choice, I would have kept the ear infection!
Today, I am thankful for advances in medicine, wonderful doctors, amazing veterinarians and the opportunity to simply make appointments to fix things when we break! Now I simply wish the dogs could join me with gratitude. Poor babies!
