Day 338
4/19/23
Alone time is a precious commodity in a home with four Goldens! Because one is NEVER alone, one adapts. For example, a hand must be free at all times to scratch a nearby head.
I am a "people person." I don't need vast crowds swarming around me, but I am happiest when someone is near (2- or 4-legged). Having said that, I consciously carve out some "alone time" for writing and pondering. Of course, being alone always includes the Goldens.
In this hectic, fast-paced world of technology and instant "everything," it seems a challenge to slow the brain down. Perhaps it is due to my career as an elementary teacher, but I tend to think and plan at least 30 seconds ahead of my present situation. To slow my thought processes down and be in the moment, is quite daunting!
So, I carve out a time each day, in this busy life, to sit quietly and enjoy the here and now. It takes a few minutes to actually slow my brain down, but it's worth the effort. Peace, deeper thoughts and a richer experience are mine...if only for a moment or two.
Once again, my Goldens lead the way, by inviting me to spend quiet time in their presence. I might not solve the world's problems, but I certainly discover my own peace in these beautiful Golden moments.
