Day 282

2/22/23

Going to Mercy Hospital is always such a joy for Ranger! After being the star of a couple TV documentaries at this venue, he is one of the most recognized faces there! Before he can go home and crash on his favorite bed, he has a routine to follow.

When we arrive, the first stop is always a visit to Mac at the Information Desk. As happy as Ranger is to see his Daddy, he only has eyes for the Administration Offices and tends to slightly pull me in that direction. "The Doorway to Mega-Treats" is always locked, but Ranger gets special access! Once inside, the drooling begins.

On this special day, both Dr. J. and Dr. E. were there! Typically, our boy goes to their closed doors and drools in a pathetic fashion. The look on his face has been captured by other office personnel and sent to the unsuspecting doctors who, as leaders of the hospital, are at important meetings. We often hear of their heartache at a later date!

Not today!!! First, Dr. J. was lured out of his office, where an important ZOOM meeting was underway, and excused himself to bring Ranger some treats. When that commotion was noticed throughout the administration area, Dr. E. opened a door down the hallway and called our Therapy Dog's name. Ranger LOPED to his buddy and treats were shared once again! Finally, a few more delicacies were dispersed from other doting fans! He was a happy puppy!

Of course, some of his attachment to these two doctors has to do with the dispensing of treats. I am the same way! Buy me a caramel malt from the D Q and I am your friend for life! However, it's more than that. These two men exude a caring aura that draws people (and dogs) to them like bees to honey. I found myself...ever the researcher...pondering what it was about these doctors, and so many others we come across, that draws us in.

There are just some people who simply appear friendly, welcoming and safe. Their smile, gestures and voice are the first indication that here is a person to trust. Even is you could fool a human, I believe dogs have a second sense about the goodness within. My Goldens can always pick out a kind heart.

People in my life typically display the kind of persona that a Golden would LOVE! I tend to surround myself with these kinds of people. They make my world brighter, as I am sure they do for anyone lucky enough to be in their presence. I am a lucky girl!

I have a magnet on the fridge that says, "Please let me be the kind of person my dog thinks I am." That is a goal for me each day. As for those around me, my Goldens would say to them, "You already are that person!"
