Day 28
6/8/22
Upheaval at the MacKechnie home! We are having a garage sale coupled with new flooring being installed on the main floor! Poor Gus...he just wants to be with Mama, but I am sometimes needed elsewhere.
As you can see from the picture, the cone of shame has taken on a new, softer look. We still use the horrible plastic cone when he is left alone for a few minutes, but he is also being trusted with a few newer varieties. To say this boy is spoiled is an understatement.
Sleeping in the guest bedroom on the main floor, amongst the massive amount of "stuff" removed from the dining room and front hall, has been an adventure. There is room for me and one needy pup on his soft bed. So far, it has been working and Gus LOVES the extra, undivided attention!
Back in the day, when we had sweet Arthur, Lilly and Ranger, I had the amazing idea to have three surgeries to coincide with a stay in the living room. Ranger was neutered, Lilly was spayed and Arthur had knee surgery at the same time. Three cones of shame and me sleeping on the couch...what could go wrong? Well, I didn't anticipate them being able to lick each others' wounds!!!! What a nightmare! It was like herding cats, but we got through it with a lot of love, patience and cone injuries to my legs.
Having just one pup with a cone should be easy, but it's Gus. He just wants to be everywhere we are and can usually make that happen, no matter how hard we try to preplan or dissuade. Oh well, I guess we just soak up the love for now.
Advice to those who keep a calendar dedicated to common sense and planning: Don't plan a big garage sale during a house improvement project and refrain from neutering ANYTHING without first checking that calendar!!!
