Day 257

1/28/23

I want to fall asleep and dream like my Goldens seem to do! Drifting off to sleep and staying that way are two challenging events on any given night!

All four of my pups can fall asleep easily. I so love to watch them when they dream. They will often growl, softly bark, run and twitch as their sleepy adventures take them beyond the house. I can imagine what is going on in those furry heads. At night, they all sleep upstairs with us and often a chorus of "mutt"erings will join together as if they are part of a choir!

I can only guess what those dreams are about. I am certain that there is much happiness and pleasant surprises in those doggy heads. After all, what do they have to worry about?

For me, sleep doesn't always come as easily. Once I have successfully drifted off, I often awake and try to solve the problems of the world...starting close to home!

In the middle of the night, everything seems more serious and unreachable. Looming just out of reach might be the answer to a big issue. Just when I have almost unraveled the problem, I typically wake up without the answer! Yes, sleeping and dreaming are not a sport for the weak!

Tonight, when I finally drift off to sleep, I plan to slip in that direction while thinking of my Goldens. Reminiscing about their gifts to the community, remembering their funny antics and simply the love they shower on so many should help me fall asleep.

Perhaps, all I need is their lack of any guilt, zest for the here and now and joyful heart. That is a tall order! Hmmm...I might just have to get a pad and pencil out so I can write down my ideas and dreams when sleep eludes me. My mind and heart will never be as simple and uncluttered as the pups, so why even try!

Sweet dreams!
