Day 254
1/25/23
We just returned from a quick trip to visit dear friends in Arizona. Leaving our Golden babies is NEVER easy for this mama! The preparations are intense and organized.
We are so very fortunate to have a dear friend stay at the house while we are gone. The pups know Michaela and accept her as one of the family. However, I still make sure there is no room for doubt when caring for these four!
There are a plethora of notes regarding their food, medicine, exercise, alone time and so much more! First, dog beds are rearranged to accommodate everyone downstairs. Next, food, toys and bedding are arranged for ease and organization. Finally, Michaela always spends the night before we depart at the house so the dogs can have a smooth transition. Yes, we are those crazy dog parents you hear about!
When we arrived home, we were met by Gus. He was looking out the window when we drove up and started the celebration. Wagging his tail and doing the Golden Circling routine, he showered us with love.
Next, Ranger and Lilly danced and barked around the kitchen...almost falling over in their excitement! These two seem to miss us the most.
Finally, Sam was allowed to join in and his crying and full-body wag told us he was glad we were home as well.
I don't believe those pups were any further than a paw away from us the rest of the evening. They were not going to lose sight of us again!
Sometimes, I wonder what they think. Their joy upon our return allows me to feel missed, but I do believe they are quite content with their temporary guardian. After all, nothing else had changed for them. I am grateful in the knowledge that they are not pining away for us whenever we leave.
Enjoying every minute of our not-so-warm visit to Mesa, I still felt an empty spot in my heart for those fur babies and Asher. It's good to travel and visit dear friends, but it is always good to return home again. It was even good to get back to all the hair!!!
