Day 241

1/11/23

How does this girl know? Lilly has a gift for finding people who need her and then she works her magic!

It was a bit icy this morning, so we had Mr. Mac drive us over to Walker Senior Residence. Lilly was escorted right to the door and had hardly entered when she turned on the charm. She loves to work a crowd and a crowd typically forms when she enters a room.

We headed up to visit a sweet lady who usually has to break away for a meeting at 9:30 (Let me just add that there are donuts at this meeting.). Today, she was waiting for one of her sons, so she asked us to sit and visit for awhile. We stayed for almost an hour, but she had such wonderful stories! Lilly sniffed around a bit and then snuggled in at my feet. I believe she could tell that this lady was doing just fine!

The next stop was a dear friend who has been challenged with health issues of late. We entered and I sat facing this sweet lady for a chat. Lilly, once again, sniffed around for a few seconds and then approached the lady and laid her head down in her lap. After a bit of ear scratching, she curled up on our friend's feet. She seemed to know that was where she was needed.

Up to the top floor and another favorite answered our knock. This poor guy has seen it all and is now facing his wife's final slide into dementia. Always smiling, today he seemed a bit different. There was a sadness about him that both Lilly and I sensed. My precious Therapy Dog greeted him with exuberance and proceeded to, somehow, entice him down on the floor for some real Golden Love. She would not leave him alone, but finally settled down to curl her body around his feet. He needed that.

Off to a few more visits and then on to our harmonica friend. By this time our driver (Mac) had arrived, so we invited him to join us! When these two veterans get together, the discussion is priceless. Although our sweet senior seemed OK, Lilly was determined to get right up close with her affection. She started with her head in his lap and then curled up by his feet for the remainder of the visit. He finally told us he had been feeling a bit sad and Lilly was just the right medicine for his heart.

How does she know? What a gift she offers...the gift of unconditional love where it is needed most. I always feel humbled in her presence as she works her Golden Magic. What a blessing she is to so many. She certainly is a blessing to me!
