Day 207
12/8/22
Reunions are so much better than farewells...just ask Lilly!
My son, Jimmy, returned to Anoka for the holidays. The film industry takes a bit of a hiatus during this time, so he decided to head home! We couldn't be happier!
Lilly has always been attached to Jimmy. When we picked Ranger and Lilly up to bring them home all those years ago, we took the twins with us. They only knew that we were bringing a little female Golden home and were thrilled with that. When we arrived, Lilly was placed in Jimmy's arms and it was love at first sight. A moment later, the breeder came over to Katie with Ranger and told her he was going home with us as well! The excitement was memorable!
Maybe it happened that first moment when Lilly found herself in Jimmy's arms. I believe that might have been the start, but the two of them have been connected since then.
Today, when we arrived, Jimmy went out in the backyard and waited while I let Lilly out the doggy door. I came down the stairs and approached the gate where Lilly was waiting for some love. From behind, Jimmy called her name and the expression on her face told it all. AMAZEMENT!!! She spun around and ran into his arms crying, kissing and cuddling for the longest time. It was so heartwarming, to say the least!
Living across the country from each other has been a challenge to all of us who love Jimmy. Even with virtual means of communication, there is nothing like a hug from a loved one you haven't embraced for a long time. There was never a doubt that Lilly had missed him, but the proof was in the reunion. Reconnecting for the family has been just as amazing!
To be loved so by a dog is a true gift that has to be earned...just like with people. That almost unconditional love demonstrated by Lilly towards Jimmy didn't happen overnight. They have had over nine years of bonding where trust, caring, time and loving actions have been front and center. Now, they simply love.
People are not so different from Goldens when it comes to reunions. When we are separated from those we love, their return is filled with anticipation, excitement and impatience. Finally the time arrives and the road leading towards being reunited has already set the stage for hugs, tears and appreciation of the time to be enjoyed.
Lilly is happy, but this mom is almost over the moon! Reunions are not overrated!
