Day 201
12/2/22
Snow has such different reactions according to age and species! When we got home from preschool today, Asher couldn't wait to build a snowman. Of course, his father and I...being older than four...were less than enthused! Even if we would have rather headed indoors, I ran for the carrots and Jon started rolling the snowballs. The snow was perfect...just the right stickiness!
After a few minutes, we were ALL acting like four-year-olds! I loved every moment!
The snow started and the wind kicked in about suppertime. There were no thoughts of building anything in the snow! However, the pups had to go out. Letting them out the doggy door, they flew into the driving snow and a rollicking game of "Slip and Slide" began. Gus and Sam LOVE the snow and I had to bribe them back in to my waiting arms (holding a towel). Their escapades make me smile and realize that small children and puppies don't even think about the cold or discomfort of the wet snow pelting down. I wish I could be more like them!
Remembering snow adventures in my childhood brought back some wonderful memories. Sliding down the hill, snowball fights, "cut the pie," skating and creating snow angels all come to mind. Like Elsa, "The snow 'didn't' bother me anyway!!!!"
As teens, we were more particular about our outdoor antics in the snow. I remember being pulled by a snowmobile with my flying saucer literally soaring through the air. I also recall skating after the rinks closed and trying a few jumps and twirls with fewer witnesses. Both memories bring back the pain associated with both activities!
My dogs, past and present, would love nothing more than to have me throw snowballs in the air for hours! Having these missiles explode when they chomp down never slowed any of them!
Now, as an adult, I am content to sit in front of the fireplace and crochet with my pups at my feet and all around. The Hallmark Channel is usually on in the background and all is well with my world. That is the easy way to survive winter.
This winter, I hope to channel my inner-Asher! Sledding, snow forts, snow-shoeing and lots of dog walks (with cleats on my boots) are all in the picture. When people ask me why I live in this state, I always say, "The four seasons are amazing! I love each one for its beauty! Just when you think you have had enough, a new season unfolds."
Now, I just have to honor that sentiment about the seasons and embrace winter! Spring will be here soon...only five more months!
