Day 191

11/22/22

Sam's favorite thing in the world, besides Gus, is his Snuggle Puppy. I discovered this magical beast when we brought Gus home. His cousin, Bachka, absconded with the treasure shortly after it arrived, so Gus was gifted another from daughter Amanda. Bachka, a beautiful, gentle pitty who can destroy anything, still holds that toy near to her heart.

When Sam came home, we were ready with his own Snuggle Puppy. This stuffy has a heart that beats within and is beyond comforting to young dogs leaving their mom and littermates. Sam LOVES it and, when crated for the night next to the bed, is always touching it and literally snuggling. It is his most cherished possession!

Watching him as he woke up this morning, my mind drifted towards my own cherished possessions. I am so lucky to have beautiful, meaningful things surrounding me in my home. As much as I take comfort from and enjoy all of them, they could be replaced if damaged...the memories of the gift and giver would still always be with me.

Then I moved on to jewelry. Now, some of these items cannot be replaced...my beloved Nanny's wedding ring, a silver man's bracelet that my mom gave to Dad when he was in WWll, my own wedding ring and so many more precious pieces. They would be some of my cherished possessions.

If dogs were possessions, they would be at the top. I don't believe we really own them because they are family, so they don't count. I was running out of "things" when it suddenly occurred to me that most every item I have can be replaced.

That is when I realized my most cherished possessions reside within my heart. My family, my beloved friends, beautiful memories and my Goldens. These are truly my most cherished possessions. I hold them close to my heart and guard their worth ferociously. My conclusion...what I cherish most are not things but loved ones and memories. I am a lucky girl...rich beyond measure!
