Day 175

There are times when I am humbled by the trusting acceptance exhibited by my faithful pack. The Goldens don't ask "Why," they simply "Do."

There are times when they are apprehensive, but the trust in their hearts overrides the fear. Vet appointments, strange places, and anything out of the normal makes them hesitate, but never disobey...well almost never.

Sam is our most trusting! He has a beautiful, humble soul. Gus is trusting most of the time. Lilly is one step ahead of all of us, so truts herself and Ranger...

Ranger had an appointment at the vet's during COVID. Mac and I drove him over and Mac offered to take him to meet the tech at the door. We were not allowed inside and everyone involved in the transfer wore masks. By everyone, I mean EVERYONE!

I was watching for my sweet boy to trot up the stairs with one of the Elm Creek staff, but he did not appear. Then, before I could get out of the car, I heard car doors and laughter.

Stepping outside, ready to risk life and limb to save Ranger if he had escaped, I could hardly believe my eyes! Evidently, my boy had planted himself when Mac handed over the leash, and refused to budge!

Other pet owners, also waiting in their cars due to protocol, had surged from their vehicles to help carry that naughty dog inside. He was calm and resigned, but it took at least four people to carry him in!

Humans, in my opinion, are neither trusting nor humble. Perhaps this predisposition towards caution and arrogance makes people retain control over "lesser" beings. It might also help humans to come out ahead on the food chain. However, I believe there can be a happy medium.

On the humble/trust continuum, perhaps humans need to slide a bit towards the dog end. It would seem that our world might benefit. I, for one, am going to work on that. Trusting, in those around us who have earned our trust, might be a good start. Being humble wouldn't be a bad addition to the human race either. I guess I simply have to be more like my dogs...well, maybe not at my next doctor's appointment!
