Day 165

10/26/22

This was a day full of Golden Love!

After a number of morning walks, Lilly and I headed over to visit our dear friends at Walker Senior Residence. Today, we made a special stop to see our favorite 99-year-old!

On Sunday, there was a reunion for the Honor Flight which included gifts, food and a video that brought tears to everyone's eyes. The Veterans, the monuments and memorials were showcased, but that was not what brought a lump to my throat. At Ronald Reagan Airport, they must have done an announcement about the Honor Flight arriving from Minnesota. People waiting to board their own flights were invited down to welcome the Veterans to Washington D. C.! The video showed complete strangers (about 200) who lined the walkway as these heroes walked and wheeled down the hall. All were shouting and waving, but some were crying unabashedly! It gave me such hope for our country as the tears streamed down my own face.

The Veterans were given hats, copies of the video, American flags and handmade quilts. After all had chose their own quilt, they were invited to take an additional one or two for fellow Veterans who were dear to their heart. Mac took two...one for his best friend who served in Viet Nam and another for our harmonica-playing 99-year-old. Both men were touched and honored.

When Mac presented the quilt at Walker today, Lilly sat right at the feet of her favorite resident. She loves this man...don't we all? His eyesight is almost gone, but those hands could certainly touch and love the gift. It was another moment of quiet, hidden tears for me.

Lilly looked on, gave a big sigh and put her head down by his feet as she does each week. These wonderful Goldens can always sense a kind, gentle spirit. Lilly, my empath, knows this man's spirit is just that...kind and gentle.
