Day 142

10/3/22

Today was Bath Day!!! It is actually more akin to a Spa Day, but I don't think the Goldens would agree. They would like to remain "natural!" Luckily, they don't get a say in the matter.

First of all, our dear friend, Terry Overacker, plumbed hot water to our outside hose. We can adjust the temperature so it is like bath water! Lucky dogs!

Next, we have all of the most trusted and amazing shampoos and conditioners for our crew. Before any products are applied, we wet them down with a Waterpik Wand for dogs. It is the most amazing apparatus and the dogs simply stand there and enjoy it!

After the shampoo and conditioner, we towel-dry them and head for the doggy salon hair-drying machine. It blows warm air at quite the blast and dries them in minutes. Extra bonus: the fur flies and there is less to brush with the Furminator!

When all were done, it was inside for treats and water. They are now sound asleep on various couches and dreaming "Sweet Puppy Dreams!"

I couldn't help but compare their four-legged pampering to the lives of so many others of the two-legged variety. I do know people who take time to actually enjoy some spa sessions, but most of my friends try to "fit pampering in" instead of planning life around a little self-care.

I am not one to lecture on this topic. I can't remember the last time I had a massage; my hair gets cut when I can't turn over at night due to catching it under my shoulder when I try to turn over and Clearasil is about the only face treatment I slather on my skin.

We should all try to schedule some time to take care of ourselves...so we can take care of others. For me, the day is over before I get to that part of the list.

On the other hand, I Walk With Goldens for miles each day. That is self-indulgent! The joy they bring me on those walks would top the best spa day ever! Perhaps self-care can take many forms other than societal expectations.

*Holding Asher's hand on the way to preschool...
*Scratching a couple goldens behind the ear and receiving the most loving looks ever...
*Greeting friends and neighbors on our walks...
*Wagging tails wherever I look...
*Candle light breakfasts with my sweet husband...

I guess I don't have to look any further than home. I do pamper myself. I simply choose to do it in an unorthodox manner. And...if all else fails...Mac gives the best foot rubs this side of the Mississippi!
