Day 141

10/2/22

Gus and I both love rocks!!! I am obsessed with rocks and rocks are a favorite form of entertainment for sweet Gus! When we walk, I need to stop and extricate these little beauties out of my boy's mouth a number of times. "What have you got in your 'guzzler'?" is a frequent question on our jaunts. At least we both love rocks... I simply choose not to eat them!

Today, rocks were part of the rhythm of our daily journeys. Ranger and Lilly took great joy in sniffing amongst the rocks, Sam helped us paint Halloween rocks and Gus finally, mercifully dropped the last rock out of his "guzzler" and proudly carried his treasured branch all the way home!

A few years ago, we visited friends up on the North Shore of Minnesota. My partner in crime, Anita, and I scrambled down the banks of Lake Superior to enjoy the waves, scenery and ROCKS! I was only going to choose a few treasures to take back home, but I found more than a few! I packed them in every possible pocket, my hood and my hands. We started to laugh so hard I almost left some behind with the effort of hauling them up the hill, gasping with laughter. "Almost" is the key word here. When we got back up to the top of the bank, we had to call our husbands to drive over to pick us up. Honestly, to this day I blame the laughter more than the weight of the rocks, but Mac disagrees with that memory.

I was honored to be asked to read one of my books at the Kindness Rock Garden in Anoka to a group of avid, young listeners. Located behind City Hall, this "garden" is full of painted rocks with uplifting messages. You can take some, leave some and transport some to places others might find them and know kindness exists in this world. The entire concept is beautiful!

My own children always bring me rocks from special places they have traveled or shopped. I also carefully choose a stone from my own adventures. I have a collection of rocks (labeled) from the glacial ice caves, Iceland, the Pacific Ocean, England, France and so many other exotic locations. I also have a wonderful collection of gorgeous crystals and precious stones from daughter Katie who loves to collect and share. I even cracked a geode at The Renaissance Festival that erupted in amethyst crystals...I was enthralled!

To say I love rocks is not an understatement. They remind me of the people and dogs I love and with whom I surround myself...

Now, if I could just stop Gus from eating them, all would be well!
