Day 128

9/19/22

These two! Gus and Sam are becoming fast friends…and I mean FAST! When they play together, they are fast!

Friends are such a gift in this journey we call life. I am lucky to have had friends through the decades, in different venues and throughout the world.

When I was little and ready to be in a creative group of neighborhood kids, life was pure and simple. Many of the members from that amazing group are still in my world. It seems like childhood was gone in a flash, but the true friendships lasted.

In my teaching years, another teacher had a life-threatening event. As a result, eight of us formed a group we called “Life’s Too Short”. We put wonderful (and sometimes crazy) ideas in a container. Every month or so we would meet for dinner and draw a slip for the next activity. We went dogsledding, a Bachelorette Party (for me) in Las Vegas, and other amazing adventures. Special ladies…special friends!

There have been lasting friendships in my “Professor Years” and I cherish these! After retirement from my college jobs, these fine people remain in my life. That is a true gift!

I am lucky enough to have friends around the world, England, Germany, Austria, and now Serbia… treasured, diverse, engaging and cherished.

Now, during my Therapy Dog Years, I have met such a variety of AMAZING individuals! Hospital staff, senior resident staff, senior residents, school staffs (we get to read with young learners), neighbors, Facebook friends, and others who simply appear and remain in my heart. I am a lucky girl!

Now I watch my Goldens form bonds that will last their lifetimes. They play, share, comfort and love in such a pure way. When I think about it, my friendship bonds are not so very different from my Golden pups. Fortunate indeed….
