Day 112
9/3/22
Today, we walked, swam and guarded with goldens!
The sniffs up at the cabin are mesmerizing!
Tennis balls must be captured in the lake!
The cabin, and all within, must be protected at all costs!!!!
Guarding is serious business for our goldens. At the window, doors and even within, every noise is suspect!
I would assume that, back in the day when their wolf ancestors roamed these parts, guarding was a matter of survival. Now, they simply must guard and alert their humans at the slightest noise.
Today, they have barked at birds, bikes, boats, neighbors, cars and each other. They seem to be on bark/protection alert!
Someone once asked us if we had "Ring" to tell us when someone was at the door. Without missing a beat, Jimmy responded, "No, we have "Bark" instead!" Sadly, it's too true...
From time to time, I must admit the pups pick up on my fight or flight response. Walking out to the point this morning, we were on a secluded section of the road. Gus kept looking back at a male walker who was gaining fast. I must have been a bit on edge because Gus started hiding from him IN FRONT OF MY PATH!
Well, that would have made a failed get-away if need be!
When he had almost caught up to us, a car appeared at an intersection and our paths went different ways. Now, I believe in the goodness of people, but I also believe in my dog's gut reaction. Either way, it all worked out safely.
Mac is returning from an errand and the barking has ensued! This time, they are simply saying welcome home! I won't even try to stop them!
