Day 11
5/22/22
It was a rather cool morning in Minnesota today. Perfect for goldens, but just a bit chilly for humans. I tried to slow my pace, tucking my hands (leash handles included) up into my hoodie sleeves and eventually noticed the most amazing thing. Cardinals were everywhere! Once I paid attention, I believe I saw at least 5 males and 3 females during the remainder of my walk. The goldens were more interested in robins hopping along on the grass or ducks swimming near the shore, but the cardinals were the stars of my journey today.
Now, many people believe that "cardinals appear when angels are near". After hearing this saying enough, it evidently stuck in my mind and I decided to let it resonate in my heart as well.
During the last year or so, I have lost 4 people who I miss on a daily basis. Knowing these dear friends, I realize they would be slightly miffed if I was sad every time they crossed my mind or heart. So, I decided to grasp the essence of each person and the true mantra they left behind.
Terry: He would help anyone in need. His heart was huge and he never met a stranger...only new friends.
Connie: Kindness, caring, love and her favorite words..."All will be well."
Tommie: Giving to a fault, this man had a gift for making people happy.
Shirley: Her love helped me realize that family does not always have to be blood.
I started to smile as I thought about these precious individuals. Help others, be giving, love as if others are family and all will be well. Being aware of these ideals and making them my own goals brings them all closer in a beautiful way.
Another cardinal sat on a branch as we walked up the driveway. I don't know who it might be, but I could feel a special warmth in my heart.
