Day 1063

This boy…never a dull moment! He has an idea a minute and some of them give me gray hairs! For example, yesterday, he was out on the cottage deck when he suddenly jumped up on a chair and put his paws on the railing! For fear a sudden move would encourage a swan dive, I slowly approached from behind to make a grab for him. To my relief, he decided that the drop was too big and gingerly backed off the chair! At least three grey hairs immediately appeared on my head!

There is often a fine line between allowing a lesson to be learned and saving a life! My tendency is to jump in way too soon! Warnings abound when I am on a road with Sweet Asher for example. Today, I bit my tongue to refrain from needless warnings such as…

“Don’t fall on the big hill on that scooter!”

“Look out for that sand so you don’t skid!”

“There is a car coming!”

…and other needless uttering. On our second walk (this time Gus and Ranger were with us), I tried not to murmur a negative word. Asher did just fine!

On our walks today, I realized that my mind was predicting every possible catastrophe. None of them happened…not even close! I believe that I have created a bad habit of fearing the worst in many situations. Like any habit, breaking my negativity will take time, but it will be worth it in the end!

On our last walk, Asher said, “Hey, Nanny! Wanna see how fast I can fly down this hill?”

The bubble above my head read “Absolutely not! You could fall into the street!” However, he heard me cheer him on with, “Go for it! I will meet you at the bottom!”

I could have sworn that Ranger looked up at me and shook his head in disbelief as if to question my role as a responsible adult! I guess I am a work in progress!
