Day 1035
Every home has a history of “accidents,” knicks in the woodwork or paint ”fixes” that remind the residents of a story. Our home is no exception. For example, Gus likes to rest his head in one of the open panes of our French doors. My children broke both windows during a creative endeavor that went slightly awry. I haven’t had the heart to fix them over the years because the stories are so rich to share!
Other imperfections in The Big White House have been tolerated and embraced through the years…even though guests might raise an eyebrow. They are simply evidence of a home with a history.
As humans, we are much like The Big White House. Life experiences might have left their own scars and blemishes on the outside and within. There are the obvious ones, such as scars, that often accompanied by an interesting tale, while others are not so obvious.
Whether visible or not, we have the option to work on fixing the imperfections or accepting them. Many of my own invisible “scars” have been embraced with the belief that they add to my empathy and compassion for others. No one person goes unscathed, so why not offer others a listening ear and heart?
Now, about that scar on my wrist… that is a story only Miss Lilly can tell!
