All of our Goldens crave our nearness and attention, but Sam goes the extra mile. An endearing trait of the breed is the “Golden Paw” that reaches out to get your full acknowledgment of that nearness. It is often rewarded with a scratch behind the ears or some other reward of affection. Sam also uses the infamous “Golden Paw,” but seems to add another element. Not only is he seeking attention, but offers his love back to you. Even with the other pups, he often reaches out simply to touch them and connect.

Human touch (and dogs too) can offer a multitude of positive messages. It can say…

*I am here.

*I understand

*I want to help.

*It’s going to be OK.

*I love you.

All of these messages can make someone feel better. Sadness and loneliness are lessened, pain is less intense and other heartaches feel lighter… and it doesn’t cost a dime!

Go ahead and touch someone on the shoulder. Give a long hug or hold someone’s hand. Follow in Sam’s paw print and reach out with kindness. Strangely enough, your own heart may feel lighter in the end!
