Day 983
Ranger and I were snuggling on the couch when my eyes wandered to the oil painting above the fireplace. This picture was commissioned as a gift for my parents many years ago. The home is a family plantation down in Lovelaceville, Kentucky. On the Farrier side of our family, the Lovelaces had settled there and the Civil War tales are incredible! We have stopped by a number of times to see this beautiful old place and learn about our heritage. There is even a family cemetery behind the house where we can pay our respects. The picture hangs with respect and is part of our story.
If you walked through our home, you could piece together so much of the narrative of life in The Big White House. Our resident ghost, Colonel Giddings, left 2000 of his favorite books in the library. Mac’s Vietnam medals sit in a shadow box hung over a Huey helicopter model. Antique lamps and clocks litter almost every room and photographs of loved ones can be found almost everywhere. My own Nanny’s apron still hangs in the laundry room with the wooden stick she used to “fish” clothes out of the agitator before they headed to the ringer.
I could go on for pages, but suffice it to say, we have surrounded ourselves with things that are meaningful and treasured. Every home, no matter how big or small, illustrates the life of those who live within those walls. Sit for a moment, or take a tour of your home, to reacquaint yourselves with who you are and what is important. It can be illuminating!
I would be remiss if I didn’t add one more thing…there are a PLETHORA of Golden retriever pictures everywhere the eye can see!
