Lilly is the “Leader of the Pack” at The Big White House! She goes through doorways first, the boys gingerly step around her when she positions herself in a doorway and when Lilly barks, they stand behind her and join in the chorus! Luckily, she is usually a benevolent ruler!

Tonight, I had the joy of watching my cousin take his ‘Oath of Office’ as Mayor of Anoka. It has been such a pleasure to watch this young man evolve from child to adulthood with his goodness taking a firmer hold on his essence every year. As he stood up in front with his hand raised, he repeated words offered by a Supreme Court Justice and I knew he meant every promising word. I believe we are in good hands with this amazing man at the helm!

What makes a good leader in today’s world? Stopping to ponder that question, I came up with two lists:

*Intelligence

*Strength

*Flexibility

*Communication skills

*Steadfastness

The second list was much more illuminating and personal…

*Empathetic

*Selfless

*Kind

*Great listening skills

*Devotion to followers

*Engaging

If all leaders could put kindness first, what a wonderful world they would create for those they represent! I have faith in good people. As for Miss Lilly…you would have to ask her brothers!
