Day 934
When Ranger and I were waiting to enter a classroom this afternoon, two little boys ran up to their big friend with cards they had made for him . “I like Ranger!” was on each card. I told them I have a Treasure Box at home where I place meaningful items, assuring the two that their cards would join my other valued gifts. The expression on their faces was priceless… they realized their gift was honored.
The written word has such power! It can make us laugh, experience wonder, touch our hearts, teach a lesson…the list could go on indefinitely. Words are such a gift.
I recently unearthed my Bible from college years. As I welcomed my old friend back into my life, it was a true walk down memory lane as I pulled out cards, photos, poems and letters from loved ones 50 years ago. Each missive was honored as I held it and let my heart wander back to the day I placed it between the pages. Such memories…each pulling a visceral reaction as I remembered.
Yes, the written word is powerful. Who knows which Christmas card, letter, photo or other treasure might leave your hand and pen to find its way into a treasure trove at its destination.
Of course, Ranger didn’t understand the impact of those sweet notes today, but his mana did. He felt the love as they stroked his soft fur while I embraced the depth of their feelings for the big Golden. Treasures indeed… into the box they go!
