Day 899
We were back to the University of Minnesota for a “Lilly Recheck” today. We have discovered that her kidneys are not doing well. She has high blood pressure, there is a possibility of glaucoma and a few more concerns. However, her kidney scores dropped significantly this week (that is a good thing!). Her blood pressure is almost under control and her energy level is great! They were concerned about glaucoma, so they took her back to visit with their opthmologist who chimed in on the final plan. We have more appointments and are grateful for our own animal version of The Mayo Clinic!
Lilly is an empath and sizes people up in the blink of an eye. She has approved of all five doctors she has seen this week. All female, these professionals get down on the floor and spend time building trust before they do anything else. After building that brief base of trust, Lilly was on board for the rest of the appointment.
There is an old saying that goes, “You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” Evidently, that works for Goldens as well! I believe this also applies to human interactions!
I have observed “communications” where the person delivering the message is blunt or too direct. Typically, that doesn’t end well. Using kind words, with a dash of patience, usually gets the job done to everyone’s satisfaction.
I am not suggesting that people be devious and controlling… only thoughtful and considerate of others. If you want something to move in a certain direction, it seems a little “Lilly Empath” work might just be the ticket. Look through the other person’s eyes and realize mutual respect sets the stage for some level of agreement on most topics.
We appreciate the U of M Veterinary Clinic! Lilly seems to approve as well. Our Golden would be the first one to say, “You can catch me with honey (or dog treats) any day!”
