Day 889
I often look at my Goldens and wonder what they are thinking. They gaze off into the distance with a longing look and I believe they are “remembering “…
Living in the same place for my lifetime, I am bombarded with memories from my past. Most are beautiful…all of them touch my heart. During a typical day, a flash goes off and a memory appears. It always takes me by surprise, but these “visits with the past” are always welcomed.
I walk by a neighborhood tree and a picture emerges of children sitting on a branch pretending to be professional spies… notebooks in hand, writing copious notes describing what we see below!
Gazing down to the football field, there is a flash of memory of my Marching Tornado days, or a vision of myself sitting with my dad in the stands. I blink again, and there’s my mom taking us down to wade in the flooded field. So many memories…
I look at a neighborhood home and faces float by from the past. Faces I deeply loved that now are a profound part of who I am.
These images disappear as quickly as they arrive, but the memories linger after reopening a door that had been closed for so long.
So look for those “flashes” of remembrance and embrace them when they surprise you! They may fade quickly, but they remind us of our journey to who we are. It’s a gift.
