Day 862
We are on the mend at The Big White House! Everyone slept through the night and tails are wagging again! What a blessing!
Saying that we take health for granted is an understatement. Whenever I have been “under the weather," I vow to appreciate my health after recuperating. My health is on the radar for a day or so before thoughts of gratitude float away like dandelions going to seed. My vow is forgotten until the next illness or body ache.
It seems the bigger the health issue, the longer our thankfulness lasts once we recover. When I tripped over Ranger (totally my fault), I was reminded each day that improvements were happening with my broken arm and head injury. Not only was I appreciative of my healing body, but my gratitude extended to the fact that my injuries weren’t worse!
So, how do you keep an “attitude of gratitude” for your physical well-being without dwelling on issues from the past? For me, I will add a note in my Gratitude Journal each day and take a moment to be truly thankful.
Now Ranger… he doesn’t dwell on his health. He simply moves forward and loves life in general. His memory for pain or discomfort is soon forgotten and his reality seems to exist only in the present. I might try to be more dog-like the next time I get hurt.
