Day 860
Once again, we are dog-tired! Just when everything seemed to be “moving” in the right direction, we are suddenly back to our nighttime vigils. Luckily, the two younger ones are sleeping again without interruption, but Lilly and Ranger are an incredible tag team! The only plus is the gift of seeing the world at night…beautiful indeed.
There have been times when exhaustion has claimed all of us. For me, memories of infant twins, reading college papers after a full day of teaching elementary and Masters students, nights at the hospital with a loved one, and a couple other diversions from sleep come to this foggy mind. In each case, I don’t regret a single moment. It is an honor and a gift to be the one who is needed.
So tonight, I will snuggle with my senior Goldens on the main floor with easier access to the back door. No harsh words or frustrations directed at those two sweeties…only love and praise for being the best dogs and making sure they get outside in time. Just like rocking babies, holding a loved one’s hand in the hospital or any other late-night appearances, I am grateful to be the one someone needs…it’s an honor.
