Day 827
Ranger makes so many friends during his visits. One of his favorites is Miss Sarah. When we visit to read with first graders, this amazing educator has a room along the way to the first grade classrooms. Ranger beelines to her open door to get some love and treats. We have also grown very fond of her daughter and Ranger loves to hear her read!
Having this duo stop by to visit and share a book or two made me think about that open door. Miss Sarah works with students who need a little extra love and patience. Her door is always open and the students know it. What a gift for these children…an open door where someone welcomes them to relax and talk. Some do their work there, but every child feels welcome and validated.
There have been a couple of those doors in my life as well. My own Nanny had a door that opened into a wonderland of baked goods, love and acceptance. Beyond that door was my safe haven as I grew up.
Another door that was always open to me belonged to our neighbors across the street. Their daughter was my best friend growing up and her parents were my own personal cheerleaders! When I needed a morale boost, I made my way to that door. They would build my self-esteem so high, I believed that anything was possible!
What needs to be behind the door in order for validation and confidence to follow you out when it’s time to leave?
*Positive affirmations
*Safety to share your heart
*Compassionate ears
*Wisdom shared
*A feeling of belonging
*No judgment
*Hugs
These doorways are a gift to those who discover them…a sanctuary indeed! I strive to have that kind of doorway at my own home. The only problem is you have to get through four barking Goldens to gain entry!
