Day 735
Off to the veterinarian office for canine flu shots for ALL FOUR! By the time the fourth one came back through the door (Sammy...we saved the best for last!), our tech was still smiling...frazzled, but still smiling! There is a good chance that, when the 'MacKechnie Pups' come calling, the behind-the-scenes activity goes something like this:
*"Oh, no! All four at once? You've got to be kidding me!"
*"YOU take them!"
*"Me? I had them last time!"
*"They are so cute though!"
*"Let's draw straws!"
*"Better do it fast! Sammy will eat the straws and everything in sight!"
Oh well, we were successful and all four are relaxing/exhausted and looking relieved! I so wish we could explain things to them, but their trust is complete.
We have a number of loved ones with medical issues right now. Let's see...a broken collar bone, a hip replacement, a broken arm, a head injury (not me this time) and so many other challenges. Part of it is that we, and our friends, are aging. Part of it is that we "aging individuals" feel empowered to live our best lives without a thought to possible accidents or age-related "stuff."
For me, I am torn between being responsible/accepting and "going for broke." (No pun intended!) Mow the entire yard? Absolutely! Clean out the basement and carry everything upstairs? Why not! Stain the cottage? Maybe? Roller blade on some pretty hilly paths...probably not.
For years, children have been told to "Act you age!" Now it is time for some of us to do the same. Embracing our senior years, while choosing relatively safe activities, is a gift many never receive. I plan to keep on going to the best of my ability...and age. Slowing down may be part of the plan, but only by a mile or two!
