Day 73
7/25/22
Everyday angels are among us. Sometimes you don't even notice the goodness they deliver your way, but other times you can't miss their magic.
Today was one of those days when an everyday angel made an appearance. It was a lovely day for walking with my goldens. The air was clear and cool, the landscape green and a gentle breeze joined the perfection of our walks. Gus always gets to walk first, mostly because his impatience has not yet been channeled. We set off and the training began.
He has learned to sit when others approach, sit and stay on command and come when called. Otherwise, he can best be described as a tornado. He is a work in progress, but he will be an amazing Therapy Dog down the road. It's just that the road is a bit winding with a few hills thrown in!
Lilly and Ranger were next, and they couldn't wait. They headed down the stairs, paws hitting the pavement and off to the river walk! All was well!
Then it happened. We were on our return journey when, crossing the road, Lilly stopped, lifted her paw and refused to move! I checked her leg and paw and found nothing amiss. I encouraged her to follow Ranger and me to the curb, but NO! That girl was not going to move an inch! I half lifted, half cajoled her to the boulevard.
I began rubbing her leg and tried to stay calm.
Then, I almost heard the theme song from 'The Lone Ranger!' A car approached and pulled up next to us. Our very dear friend, Michelle, rolled down the window and asked if we needed help. I explained and she parked her car, coming around to our wounded golden.
She was dressed for work but didn't hesitate to offer Lilly a ride home in her car. My relief was profound. We loaded her in and off they drove. Ranger, a very confused and concerned brother, and I headed after the car.
When we got home, Lilly was in the backyard and Michelle had left without a proper thank you or even a hug! (We will deliver a proper thank you soon.) Angel indeed! I know she saw our dilemma and headed our way without a thought to her own schedule or deadlines. I am beyond grateful and know, deep in my heart, that the serendipity of the moment was orchestrated in a way we cannot comprehend.
Our Lilly rested for a bit and now seems to be doing just fine. I, on the other hand, will not soon forget that there are always angels among us...sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't!
