Day 712

Just like my own children, I love my Goldens all the same...just in different ways. They are all quite connected to me as well. However, Sam is obsessed with me. He cries when I pet one of his siblings, he is my CONSTANT companion and his eyes rarely leave his Mama. This is endearing, but a challenge when it's time to leave. That face...

Long ago, in my "professor days," I had the opportunity to do some speaking engagements out-of-state. Although it was exciting on some levels, missing my children was unbearable. Goodbye to leaving town for my career!

Other times, there were financial choices to make as a single parent when I had some late nights at different universities. There was never a time that I didn't get home to kiss those sweet, sleeping faces goodnight. (Thank you to my mom who watched over them when I couldn't.)

Every decision we make effects loved ones on some level. Hopefully, those around us understand and love us through necessary absences. My heart has been mostly fortunate.

Now, with my new generation of children with four legs, I KNOW I will be forgiven every time I leave or make a misstep. Dogs forgive instantly...we can all learn from their open hearts. As for Sam, whenever we are separated, even by a bathroom door, forgiveness erupts when we are reunited! He has a huge heart for his Mama!
