Day 673

Mr. Ranger had a full day today and he is now "sacked out" on the daybed in the sunroom. Although I know he is exhausted, he is resting with his eyes open...almost as if he is thinking about his day.

We started out at Walker Plaza early in the morning. Meeting one of my dearest friends (Class of 1973!), we usually head right up to visit one of our high school teachers. Today, Ranger and I took a little detour when we noticed a friend by the door. Approaching, I fought back tears as I knew he was heading to his wife's funeral this day. We took a moment to share some Golden Love and a hug. I will never forget the look on his face...a mixture of sorrow, love and strength. As he caressed Ranger's big, old head, he thanked us for caring.

Heading up to see our 'regular,' we stopped to connect with a few friends along the way. They were surprised to see Ranger and inquired about Lilly. We just told them that she's up in the penthouse and her brother was there for a visit. Those seniors love that story and embellish it each week!

After our visit, we jumped back in the car and headed over to the visitation for sweet Sharon (wife of our earlier connection). Stopping briefly, we saw her wonderful daughter who came right over for a hug. Such a loving family...

Off to Mercy where Ranger charmed a multitude of patients and staff. His best connection happened when we were at the Heart Center. We often sit with patients who are waiting for a ride. Today, a gentleman was sitting and looking extremely tired. When I asked if he was waiting to get picked up, he responded that he had driven himself over for an appointment and was resting before he walked a lengthy distance to his car. He looked like that might just be too much for him! There is valet parking, so we asked the man in charge if he could help. He jumped into action, ran the two blocks to the car and drove it right to the door. The patient was so grateful and my heart was filled with renewed faith in the human race!

We parted ways, met a few more dog lovers and then headed down another hallway. Suddenly, Ranger stopped in his tracks and was done! He wanted to go home! NOW!!!! I patted him on the head and said, "What a wonderful boy! Let's go home and get you all rested." When he's done, he's done!!!!

Let's see...

*Comforted a senior who missed his wife

*Brought smiles to one of Mama's teachers from LONG ago!

*Shared his love with countless people at Mercy

*Visited a few patients who needed some hope

*Helped some patients down at PT.

*Was the best team member for his Mama

*Came home to rest and still offered that big paw for a little more love and connection.

All this before 1 o'clock in the afternoon!!!

"Job well done, Sweet Boy! You make this world a better place and you don't even know it!"
