Day 639
Lilly and I had the absolute joy of delivering Valentine's Day cards and candy to the residents at Walker. She left one basket of candy and cards at the front desk and then we proceeded to walk through the halls delivering candy and cards throughout the complex. The smiles were EVERYWHERE and Lilly was the center of loving attention.
Some residents shed tears while others hugged us both. There were residents who couldn't believe their good luck in getting a card AND candy while others quietly thanked us and assured us that this simple act made their day. It was a good day to share the love!
Although this holiday seems to focus on couples (Mr. Mac went all out today!), I realized there are so many types of love surrounding us. With our senior friends, our bonds are strong and the affection is almost palpable. There are even three residents who freely say, "I love you." when we part ways. I say it right back and mean every word.
I love those seniors!
Along with our spouse, or significant other, there is a special love for our children and family. When a mother or father thinks about love, their sons and daughters immediately come to mind. When asked about my most memorable Valentine's Day, I told my husband (other that every one of them with him by my side) that I brought my first baby home on that day. I remember my heart almost bursting with love for that little gift.
I love my family!
Friends are also part of that "love circle". There are friends that mean so much that you can hardly imagine life without them. When I think of my loving friends, their faces come into my mind and heart with a special glow. Friends don't get a free pass into that circle of love...they earn it by being trustworthy, non-judgmental, true-blue, loyal, caring, empathetic and honest. They are also some of the best listeners in my world.
I love my friends!
What would Valentine's Day be without the love a good dog...or four? When you add all the qualities of a faithful friend into the mix, you come out with those pets. Ranger, Lilly, Gus and Sam show unconditional love at its best.
I love my Goldens!
Hoping all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day and that love was the center of all that happened. As for my Goldens, every day is Valentine's Day...a day to share their love.
