Day 591
When we went to pick up our Gus over two years ago, there were two males to choose from. I chose one and the other chose Mac. Gus went over to Mac's feet and promptly made himself at home...eventually falling asleep there. I knew he was the puppy we needed to take home because he already trusted this wonderful man.
Today is my husband's 75th birthday. Being born in Japan, we actually were able to celebrate the big day twice! Having been part of a military family, he lived in Germany for a number of years and, eventually, a host of other military bases around the United States. He was a student at over ten different schools in his educational career and would tell you that he walked uphill to each and every one of them (as well as uphill to get home once again).
Achieving a Masters in History at TCU and having a career as an Air Traffic Controller are impressive enough, but he would humbly say it was just the path he walked. A medic in Viet Nam, he saved a man's life and helped countless others to safety and health before facing his own battle with a landmine. Once again, he would humbly acknowledge all of these life events, but would reiterate that it was simply more of the path in front of him.
Mac would be the first to admit that he is a curmudgeon and quite serious by nature (We lovingly compare him to Mr. Fredrickson from Disney's "UP"). However, those who are lucky enough to know him best would add that he has a heart as big as all outdoors and possesses one of the kindest spirits you will ever encounter. His honesty is almost legendary. He tries to be the best
*"Dad" to my children
*Helpful neighbor
*Doggy Daddy
*Extended family member
*Minnesota sports fan (exception for the Cowboys)
*Dad Joke Distributor
*Silver Dollar Giver to nurses and teachers
*Husband...ever
This man is like a rock and offers a foundation to anyone in need of support...of which his wife is the luckiest of recipients.
To say he is loved and adored is an understatement...just ask the Goldens. Gus certainly knew what he was doing when he plopped down on this man's feet as if to say, "Choose me!" We are forever blessed that the Birthday Boy chose us!
