Day 582
What is it about the holidays that brings out more smiles, joy and love? Today, Lilly and I found out!
At The Big White House, the decorations have been up for a few weeks, the Christmas music is playing in every room and the Hallmark Channel is a constant. The smells of baking, candles and happy Goldens are everywhere. We are blessed to have such a beautiful backdrop for the holidays!
Lilly and I were at Walker Senior Residence this morning and were immediately met by this guy in a red suit! My Therapy Dog knew him immediately and was so happy to see him! Santa (Mike the Bus Driver) was going around the buildings spreading more than just a little cheer!
Although there are many lonely residents at this venue, the staff goes all out to make certain everyone feels wanted, needed and loved. Santa and the elves actually had huge dollies piled high with gifts...one for each resident...hand-picked to be just the right present for every single person! Lilly and I met the team as they were planning their drop-off of goodies and the scene almost brought me to tears. As we jumped on the elevator, I asked one of the elves, "How did you know what to get every single person?" She looked at the array of wrapped gifts and answered that each resident had been asked what they wanted and Santa was about to deliver their wish!
Looking around at the displays of lights and music in our home, I realize it is the backdrop for beautiful memories and real opportunities for showing love. At Walker, it is no different. The staff has grown to love their residents and made sure everyone felt that love today.
For it isn't about the lights or music. It is not really even about the gifts themselves. It is about the people who do whatever they can to share the circle of love in whatever setting they find themselves. It is a time to give freely from the heart. We were fortunate enough to see that love in action this morning. What a beautiful sight!
