Day 468

This man! Happy 100th Birthday to this gentleman! At his party today, there was music, laughter and standing-room-only guests! Everyone marveled at his poise, intelligence and joy on this special day! There were also conversations centering around the amount of people who attended the celebration! It was a wonderful way to honor a wonderful man!

My grandmother lived to be 93. (She would have turned 138 this year and I miss her every day!) Since we lived next door, I was often her driver to go to church, the grocery store or to visit friends. She would call me on the phone and say, "Honey, could you please drive me over to 'The Finishing School' to visit the old people?" Her sense of humor never failed to bring a smile to my face! We would arrive, chat with a few of her friends and then she would signal that it was time to leave. On the way to the car, she would talk about how sad it was to get old like some of her friends...she was already pushing 90!

Over the years, I would observe this sweet woman hop in a car with a friend to go shopping. As the seasons passed, the friends became younger and younger. She once mentioned how sad it was to say goodbye to her friends as they aged. Once again, I would smile as I witnessed the number of friends to be expanding instead of diminishing. We would have birthday parties at our house from the time she turned about 85 and well over 100 people would attend. She never "felt" old and enjoyed people no matter their age. I believe that was her magic.

People say that age is just a number. Aches and pains accumulate as we get older, but it really is a matter of perception. If your mind stays young, you don't really age. Your body may slow down and frustrate you at times, but your spirit continues to thrive!

As with my own Nanny, my dear friend Don's spirit is YOUNG! He still loves his music, friends, family and life in general. He makes this world a better place...just ask any of the guests at the party today! They would ALL agree "100"%!
