Day 441
What a delightful meeting!!! Today, Charlean R Sabo Albright from Old Barkers Farm Senior Dog Sanctuary (look them up on Facebook!), brought three of her sweeties in for a visit! This lady has been through SO much heartache in the past year and still she wears that brilliant smile that lights up the world.
I had a gift or two to give her, so she drove in with three happy members of her pack. Another dear friend, and her husband, arrived shortly after with a truckload of things to donate to the farm. We were all in Golden Retriever Nirvana!
The Farm's newest rescues have a duel purpose. They keep the seniors "young at heart" and protect Charlean's "heart" when she has to say good-bye to one of her elders. Goldens Lainey and Ruby have joined the pack after being recued from very questionable circumstances. This mother/daughter duo were so blessed to be brought into Old Barkers. Their luck really came along when they were rescued together. Charlean went to pick up ONE dog and came home with TWO! How could she separate them?
After the guests left, I began to wonder, "What makes someone's heart so big that they have room to love unconditionally and give of themselves?" It has been my privilege to know more than a few individuals who choose to make a difference and forget about their own needs and wants. It is a beautiful thing to behold.
Are these people born this way, or does life's journey prepare them for their "Passion Project," along with selfless acts of kindness? The conclusion I reached was probably both.
I have known families where the children all seem to have the same opportunities, love and expectations, but one of them stands out as having empathetic and caring hearts, more so than their siblings. That led me to believe that these caring individuals are born with a beautiful heart. On the other hand, dreams can be derailed, relationships can douse the light and health issues can all close the doors to kindness. At that point the pendulum swung back the other way.
Hmmm...perhaps it is that a person is born as a beautiful, caring individual and then, if there are not insurmountable barricades to their dreams, they become the kind of adult that can make this world a better place.
Charlean, you are one of those people. Thank you for what you do for these old, furry souls. 50 years from now, when you approach that Rainbow Bridge, you are going to be bombarded with puppy kisses, doggy hugs and unbelievable joy as you are greeted by all of your babies. Lady Di will lead the charge.
