Day 359

It was 5:49 a. m. when I heard a whispered whimper. Turning over in bed, I hoped my little man would take a hint and cuddle his Snuggle Puppy for a few more Golden Winks...I was wrong. The whispers became a bit more demanding in nature, so I slipped out of bed, grabbed my robe and let Sammy out of his kennel. We made a quick exit, shut the door on the slumbering crew and headed down the stairs.

Walking to the doggy door, I invited my shadow to head out into the backyard...nope. Then, I walked towards the dog food containers while he headed towards the living room. I was still groggy and trying to get my head in the "Awake Position," but I obediently followed Sam and found him on the couch. Rolling over on his back, he used those two, huge front paws to beckon me over for a tummy rub. My heart melted. He just wanted to be with someone he loved.

There have been times when sleep evaded me for good reason. When my children were little and sick, I even tried to catch a few moments of slumber on the floor by their beds. When my parents entered their years of medical needs, I lacked a good night's sleep for hospital stays or late night calls. When I was enjoying the roles of college professor/elementary teacher/Mom, I would stand beside my bed to correct essays into the wee hours of the night. (If I sat down, I would fall asleep.) There was even a time at Walt Disney World when, not wanting to miss ANY of the magic, I was so tired I fell asleep STANDING UP during a tour of the Magic Kingdom!

Sleep is not a priority in my life. I wish I could simply be awake every minute of the day and night! It would be so wonderful and I could get so much accomplished!!! However, the body requires rest, so I must give in.

This morning, when I heard the whisper of my Sammy, I was almost glad to be up with him to greet the day. When there was an added session of adoration, I was thrilled that I had left sleep behind!

Right now, all four pups are napping, Mac is probably snoozing away and I am...well, I am writing "Walking With Goldens"! Who needs sleep anyway? Sending love to all and the sweetest of dreams...whether tonight or in "Yummy Naps" (nod to my dearest Libby).
